Totally agree with this. Localism is not about giving more power to local authorities, it's about devolving power as close to the people as possible. That means right down to the individual where we can.

People should have more control over the institutions that act on their behalf no matter wether its the police, local government or schools.

I too believe that a centrist approach has not worked. My concern however is that local authorities are increasingly being given powers, sometimes powers that only the Police previously had yet they are not properly or fully accountable.

If we are to successfully have a more localised democracy then local authorities need to be reminded that they are the public's servants, not their masters. They need to be fully accountable to local people.

Local authorities and their staff have become a law unto themselves and I believe that is not in the best interest of, not only the local electorate, but the country as a whole.
