Councillor Philip Hickson, leader of the Conservative Group at Derby City Council, has announced that he is standing down as leader of the Conservative group in May. He will continue to stand as a local councillor. Those tasked to take on his legacy within the group leadership will have much to live up to but I’m sure they will meet the high standards he has set.
There is no doubt that being a Conservative and being from Derby are no longer mutually exclusive. Indeed thanks largely to Philip’s work, it looks tantalisingly possible that we will soon have a Conservative controlled Council and three Conservative MPs representing the City.
