Another fire struck the Hippodrome yesterday – how long can we leave this listed building to rot in the centre of our city?
Something has to be done. Under Conservative proposals it will be easier for communities to form Community Land Trusts so that local people can come together to stop this kind of decay from setting in.
We need to do somethign together but first we need to change this failing government.

Firstly, you’ve spelt ’something’ wrong on your comment.
Secondly, the “failing government” as you so eloquently phrase things has nothing to do with the state of the former Derby Hippodrome as it is now. Derby City Council is controlled by the Liberal Democrats, not Labour, and it is them who you should be persecuting for allowing this wonderful building to slowly crumble in front of our very eyes.
Agreed, the Liberal administration must face-up to its responsibilities on this.
However, it is the centralising, inflexible and untrusting culture of top-down bureaucracy that the Labour government have presided over for the last 12 years that frames this issue.
Under Conservative proposals, councils and communities will have much more power to take the decions that matter to them locally. Labour have had 12 years to give communities this kind of freedom and they’ve failed – time for change.
